Sadistic Sadie Leads Cincinnati To Biggest Win In Team History
In just their third year of existence, the Cincinnati Rollergirls All-star squad, the Black Sheep, collected their biggest win to date, holding off the 3rd ranked Carolina Rollergirls 74-69 on Saturday night at the Cincinnati Gardens. Coming into the bout, Cincinnati was ranked 26th in the Womens' Flat Track Derby (WFTDA) rankings. With the upset win, Cincinnati could vault into the WFTDA top 15.
The Black Sheep were led by Women's Flat Track Derby (WFTDA) All-star Sadistic Sadie, who amassed 50 of the teams' 74 points on the jam. Cincinnati led by a comfortable 47-24 margin at halftime. But the experience of nationally ranked Carolina did not go away, outscoring Cincinnati 29-4 to start the second half, including a 25-0 run on four consecutive jams. That run gave Carolina their first lead of the evening, vaulting in front of Cincinnati 52-51. But it was Sadistic Sadie who singlehandedly rallied Cincinnati's Black Sheep after the Carolina Run, scoring all but four points in the second half for Cincinnati.
Hannah Barberic and Candy Kick A$$ were the only other jammers on the night for Cincinnati. Both skaters tallied 12 points, to round out the Cincinnati scoring. The Black Sheep also got strong blocking and pivot work from Blu Bayou, Panterroize, June w/ a Cleaver and Ruff'n the Passer, in the winning effort. While the win was a total team effort, the night belonged to Sadistic Sadie, who showed why she is a member of the national all-star team known as Team Awesome. With the win, the Black Sheep improve to 7-3, on the 2008 season.
The Black Sheep all-stars will now wait to see whether they will qualify for the WFTDA East Regional Tournament to be played starting August 14. The Cincinnati Rollergirls 'B' team, the Silent Lambs will take to the road and skate against Northern Kentucky's Black and Bluegrass Rollergirls on Saturday, August 16. That bout will be played at Sportsville in Florence, Kentucky.
